New year newsletter from Tim Chalice
Dear Friends,
A very Happy New Year to you all! We’ve made it to 2012 and I wonder what this year will bring for us all? I hope that whatever your journey this year you will manifest all the peace, love, joy, nourishment, healing, beauty, laughter and transformation you desire and deserve. For myself, I am looking forward to expanding my chanting sessions this year into different directions and locations, and more immediately I am very excited about the recording of my new CD, Devotional Heart, to be released in the next few months. Recording is well under way with six very long tracks, combining meditative chants with more up-tempo ones, all created to take the listener deeper into devotion and silence. I will let you know, of course, when it is ready!
Last year I was sending separate newsletters for Bristol and Bath, but this no longer feels appropriate as I am no longer so fixed in my locations now, so I will just be sending one newsletter for 2012. At present I haven’t replaced the monthly Wednesday night slot at the Pierian Centre but I am on the lookout for a suitable venue. A new addition, however, will be chanting at Universal Yoga, in Camerton, south of Bath, on the third Friday of each month. I’ll also be involved in some Mums & Babies chanting sessions this year – more news to follow next month I hope. I will also be looking to offer more 1-1 sessions this year, so if you are interested in developing more authenticity and confidence in your voice, working with vocal practices, chanting or even harmonium lessons then please get in touch. I am delighted to say that we will continue to host Devamurti’s Pratyahara Techniques from the Tantras at the Light House on alternate Monday evenings. See below for further information. Finally, my wife Louise, for those of you don’t know her, will be offering more 1-1 healing, including Reiki Training, crystal healing, soul retrieval, regression and much more. She will also be re-instigating the monthly healing share on Wednesday 25th January. Please contact Louise at louisechalice@gmail.com for more information.
So, here are all the events for January. I hope to sing with you soon!

Dear Friends,
In this fast moving society it is so important to make time to stop and simply breathe. It is so rejuvenating to simply follow our breath in and out with awareness. We can then return to the demands of our daily lives with renewed focus. As a parent myself of two children aged 1 & 3 my days often go by in a blur and I am constantly grateful for my chanting practice which can quickly return me to my breath, my centre, my Self.
This ability of chanting to take us so quickly into a space of peace and silence makes it so relevant for the 21st century and more and more people are finding themselves drawn to chanting. This was beautifully highlighted at last months Bhakti Music Festival, a whole weekend of chanting, yoga, meditation and dance. I was very honoured to sing there and was very inspired by all the young people there who were so deeply committed to these devotional practices. It was very reassuring to have that perspective as we returned home that weekend to hear about the unfolding riots which painted our young people in a very different light.
I hope to see you at Yoga Bodhi this month on September 9th for another special night of chanting and the dates for the rest of the year, in case you wish to put them in your diary, are October 14th, November 4th & December 9th.
I’ll also be chanting throughout September in Bristol – see http://timchalice.webs.com/apps/calendar for more information.
Om Shanti,
Tim x

Bristol’s Biggest Kirtan night!
Sunday 19 June 2011
7.30-9.30pm
The Folk House, Park Street, Bristol
Dear Friends,
I’ve mentioned this to some of you in person but wanted to let you all know officially about a very exciting evening of chanting on Sunday 19th June.
Dave Stringer, one of the leading exponents of Kirtan – devotional chanting – is stopping off at the Bristol Folk House as part of his world tour. In order to keep things simple he won’t be bringing his whole band but will be joining with local chant-leaders including Yasia and myself, Tim Chalice. It promises to be a wonderful evening and Bristol’s Biggest Kirtan Night to date!
Kirtan is a practice of mantra chanting that stills the mind and frees the heart. Sung in call-and-response form, ecstasy is both the process and the product. Stringer’s sound infuses the mysticism of traditional Indian instruments with the exuberant intensity of American gospel and jazz, and he is regarded as one of the most gifted singers in the genre. An engaging speaker with an unorthodox perspective, he has a special ability for making the Sanskrit chants come alive and inspiring people to sing. His work creates a modern and participatory theatrical experience out of the ancient traditions of kirtan and yoga, open to a multiplicity of interpretations, and accessible to all. Based in Los Angeles, since 2000 Stringer and his ensemble have produced 6 CDs and toured North America, Europe and Australia tirelessly
The Los Angeles Times has declared the experience of chanting with Dave Stringer to be “a departure from ancient kirtan. Stringer’s performance shaped the experience into a far more compelling musical encounter.” Stringer has been widely profiled as one of the most innovative artists of the new American kirtan movement in publications as diverse as Time, Billboard, Yoga Journal and In Style.
“A volcano of a voice! Stringer transported us to another time and place. His fiery, soulful voice gave the entire room a feeling of a down-home gospel jam and one could not help but sing along.” — LA Yoga Magazine

Chanting for Inner Peace with Tim Chalice
First, a message from Tim:
“Spring has truly Sprung since my last newsletter. In fact, Summer seems to have arrived today after I caught the sun taking the children to the playground today!
I have been doing some reflecting about the Bath chanting session at Still Point and have decided to change things around a little. Although I like Still Point I have decided to move venue to Yoga Bodhi. It feels more appropriate to have the session in a Yoga Studio with a more consistent flow through of people with similar interests – meditation, silence, union. Yoga and chanting have a lot in common and co-exist perfectly. I run a lovely evening at a yoga studio in Bristol and it has a wonderful acoustic and resonance so I am hoping for the same at Yoga Bodhi.
The other change is that this session will run on the 2nd Friday of each month. I know this will work for some of you and not others and I will be truly sorry if I lose some regulars but it is essentially the only available evening and I will just have to take that chance and hope you can all still make it.”
